Cycling holiday in Brandenburg 2013
Do you fancy a cycling holiday in Brandenburg, the state between the Oder and Havel rivers, pedalling through the Spreewald and lake district, in Frankfurt and Berlin? Diverse countryside, wonderful cultural heritages and excellent cycle paths are waiting for you.
The Oder-Neisse cycle path is very popular: Going downstream, the path takes you from the mysterious rocks of the Zittau mountains straight along the German-Polish border. You cross the Unteres Odertal national park passing through ancient countryside and glimpsing its wildlife to finally arrive at the Baltic coast to sniff some sea air.
Rivers, lakes and riverside forest are what you will experience on the Spree cycle path to Berlin. The river ambles though the expansive Sorbian hardwood forests where it has formed an intricate network of watercourses, ponds and canals. The UNESCO biosphere reserve is not truly explored unless you venture out on a punt and head into the jungle! A total contrast to all this nature is Berlin with its abundance of culture and an exciting nightlife.
If you would like to explore beyond the city limits, follow the Havel and the Havel cycle path to Potsdam. This elegant residential town and state capital of Brandenburg alone is worth a visit. It is no wonder that the entire Potsdam countryside was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990.
Nature and culture lovers alike will be delighted by Brandenburg and its cycle paths.
